- Get down to your chid’s level or sit down on the floor and ask him to show you what to do. He will be thrilled to be able to teach a skill.
- Making an activity (from this blog for example). Teaching your child what is expected of her, making constructive comments, and praising are fantastic ways of engaging with your child!
- Play a game or do an activity that is familiar to you -there are several games from your generation that is new and interesting to a child.
- Walk and talk – take your child for a walk and play the “I spy” game – this is the most fun and simple way to entertain a child when you are out and about at any given time.
- Toys that are easy to play with:
- Playdough – you can simply make objects with it or just be molding it. This is a very calming activity.
- Mr. Potato Head – all you need to do is put on accessories to the potato. Be silly, children love seeing people putting the ears where the mouth goes, etc.
- Building blocks – just stack them!
